About

My Approach

I will work alongside you to help make sense of your experiences and reduce distress in a way that feels right for you. We will take the time to think together about the best way to approach your difficulties.

Rather than imposing a set framework, I bring a range of perspectives, including medical, psychological and social, to help untangle challenges and explore possibilities. You may want a clear diagnosis, or you may prefer to come to a shared understanding without the need for ‘labels’.

You may want to explore the option of talking therapies, medication, creative approaches, and/or practical strategies. Over time your preferences may change. I aim to provide a thoughtful, open, and flexible space for your process.

About Me

I am a Consultant psychiatrist with specialist expertise in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry. I have worked in the NHS for 20 years and  continue to do so alongside my private practice.

I have expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, psychosis, ADHD, dementia, bipolar affective disorder and cPTSD.

I have a particular interest in psychological approaches to mental distress. I draw on the principles of the Open Dialogue approach and also have training in CBT, psychodynamic, family and group therapies. I hold a diploma in group analysis and foundation training in family therapy.

I was clinical lead and Principal Investigator for the local Open Dialogue team in the national ODDESSI trial and continue my engagement in mental health research.

I am actively involved in training doctors and UCL medical students, and am the UCL Course Director for the Royal College of Psychiatry membership training. I have held numerous other training positions in my career.

Before studying medicine, I completed a BSc degree in psychology, graduating with the highest awarded First Class degree in my year group. I went on study medicine at  University College London, graduating with numerous prizes. I was awarded a distinction for a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
